    Hi There,

Does the G110 have forced rotation or isn't the rotation forced?

    Bye,

    Tim

        That is a short one

How does the G110 rotate then? It will easily stop rotating when it's experiencing friction then?

        Regards,

        Tim

You only asked a yes or no question...

Same as any Dual Action Polisher, random orbits in a circle. The picture would help explain this.

Not completely correct a Flex of a Makita BO6040 does have a forced rotation in Dual Action mode. And that rotation isn't stoppable by hand.

Some normal orbital sanders doe rotate on their own axis aswell, but aren't called Dual Action polishers.

            Regards,

            Tim

If you put your hand on the pad (like for cleaning) it will stop moving. A forced rotation machine (rotary, flex etc) is directly driven from the motor in one direction.

What is a dual action polisher?

Dual Action polishers are characterized by the motion of the head. It spins on a central spindle, and this spindle rotates around an eccentric offset. A good metaphor for a dual action polisher is the earth’s orbit. The earth itself spins and it also orbits around the sun. Dual action polishers are also called orbital polishers for this reason.
To the right is a simplified illustration of the underside of a dual action polisher, like the Porter Cable 7424 or the Ultimate Detailing Machine. You can see how the opening for the backing plate sits off-center. The counterweight sits opposite the backing plate to balance the weight of the pad and plate to prevent wobbling.

The rotating and orbiting of the pad produces what many refer to as a "jiggling" motion. This irregular motion prevents the polisher from burning the paint, which refers to removal of paint below the clear coat surface. Dual action polishers are very USER FRIENDLY because they produce very little heat compared to a rotary polisher.

Yes, in forced rotation mode on these two machines you wouldn't be able to stop in by hand (nor want to try) but your comparing apples to oranges. BTW the Flex always has the forced rotation and the Makita functions via a switch.

Thanks you for you're explanation. The BO6040 and the Rotex will be more powerfull than a D/A then (and more expensive, and more potentially dangerous when not using it right), correct?

The only way these polishers can be "dangerous" is if you drop them onto your car. Otherwise, no danger. While they are forced rotation, the rotation is so mild (about 600rpm) that it's almost impossible to do damage.

Seriously, you can hold a BO6040 on one spot for one minute without any harm.

Keeping a BO6040 on one place for a minute (with pressure) will seriously heat the paint up, it tried it on a bonnet

Yeah, I've tried it too...just experementing.

It did get quite warm but nothing serious - however I didn't apply any pressure. I wanted to test it's heating ability to see where the boundary was.

Whatever the figure you want to put on it, the point of sharing my experience was to demonstrate that the BO6040 is safe to use in the hands of a novice (unless you're really stupid), unlike a rotary.

People have damaged paint even with PC. Lulling oneself into believing that there is zero risk no matter what is a bad thing to do. One should never stop practicing common sense.
