  • metal polishes aggressiveness ranking?

Which one is more aggressive cleaner?

Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish

    NXT Generation All Metal Polysh

Are they more aggressive than other makers' chrome polishes?

Do they instantly damage the surface if they were mistakenly used on clear coat paint, plastic that looks like metal, etc.?

I have a feeling Nxt might be a little milder, but they should be pretty close. They are probably safer than a lot of other companies products really.

Nxt is safe for clear coat paint, I do not know if the Hot Rims is. I wouldnt want to use either on plastic.

What do you plan on using the metal polish on?

I have used NXT metal polysh on my chrome plated plastic (or whatever it is! It's plastic but it looks like chrome) and it makes it look great. It's probably not recommended by Meguiar's to be used like that, but it works well.

We'll check, but were pretty sure the Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish is the more effective cleaner.

Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish is not a chrome polish. It is a polish for uncoated metals like Magnesium and Aluminum, thus the name and the product for this long time traditional market.

No way we can answer this question accurately unless we have other product sitting right in front of us with some information on each product.

          In the bigger picture...

          1. What are you working on?
          2. What condition is the surface?
          3. What is your goal?

We personally haven't purposefully used these products in the wrong way to see what happens so we don't have an accurate answer to your question, we will say this however... Meguiar's ALWAYS recommends that you match the correct product to the surface you're working on. If a person mis-matches a product to the wrong surface then the potential exists for a problem.

We also always recommend that if you're unsure of what you're working on, as in what kind of coating is on the material or what the material is itself, then contact the manufacture and ask them.

So, Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish should not be used on chrome bumpers and wheels?

Do you have anything for this?

This popped up all of a sudden at 11,000 miles, and nothing I have tried so far has worked to improve the appearance.

I kept them maintained with NXT Metal Polysh and they looked fine until recently.

I am thinking this is a manufacturing defect.

                  How did you guess?

You did seem to have the most sound advice. Oddly enough, this only seems to be a problem for 2006 owners!

After a few years on here you can tell.......it's sad really....

Those tips on the 06 do seem to be a problem though, I wish I had that problem. I don't think I will be able to get one for a year or so. It *****, but it will totally pay off in the future. Did you try any of the suggestions?

                      Re: metal polishes aggressiveness ranking?

I tried all of them, and they were all equally ineffective. Looking at the big picture it's a minor problem. Even if I have to replace the pipes back to the muffler it is no big deal. Maybe there is something aftermarket that will hold up better!

A very minor thing, but since I am OCD, it does annoy me to look at it. But I can deal with that hassle for 400 HP LOL!

For chrome bumpers and wheels, use NXT All Metal Polish...not sure about the Hot Rims, wait for someone else or Mike to reply for that. The NXT All Metal will be fine though and it looks great!!

My goal is not show car perfect shine.
I want a reasonable amount of shine, and good protection.
