    Hey TP,

Is that black and yellow BC/CC or some type of urethane etc???

If it is paint, will he have access to use a buffer? If not, I would suggest using Meg's #20 Polymer Sealant.

If he does have access to use a buffer, then follow the #80 with NXT, #21 or #20.

        Re: Sports Bike Detailing

If it is all plastic, I would probably use a plastic polish like Meg's #10 or PlastX. You could also try a Marine product like Meg's Flagship Wax. It is designed for fiberglass, but a test spot would be needed.

When I said, access, I meant access to use a buffer on the panel(s). Sorry.

Sometimes using a sealant on plastic, which is really designed for use on paint, can cause a slight dulling or "cloudy" effect. If you try #21, obviously try a test spot and see how it responds.

Meg's #20 is an excellent product that I have used for over 20 years. The reason I suggested it in your case is that sometime there is a fair amount of road grime etc that the light cleaners in #20 may remove. In MHO, #20 will last as long as #21, but is a little glossier, but it does not have quite the richness that #21 has. Both are excellent products.

so plast-x or M10 is best bet then.

          its never been waxed before.

          hmm interesting.

what can this stuff be topped with.

          we can't get M20.

it'll obviously be hand washed prior to all this.

          wash
          clay
          plast-x or M10
          WAX?

            Hey TP,

Oh...you can get M20 you just have to know the the right people.

I believe M20 can still be purchased in Canada in the 64oz size.

I would just use the PlastX as it has protecting properties in it.

If its a newer sport bike it is painted with a base coat/clear coat like a car. Stay away from plasticX, while it may be safe for paint, its not advisable!!!!!!!!!!

I own a CBR (I am assuming your friends bike is a Suzuki by the paint combo) and its very difficult to use a PorterCable because of the small spots and tight areas....

I would recommend using either #80 by hand or ScratchX, followed by DC2 or #7, then two coats of either #21 or NXT

That is why I asked if it was BC/CC in my first reply. If it is BC/CC, then #80 and #21. If the panels are plastic (like on quads), then a pure polish base for general clean up or perhaps PlastX. But again, always do a test spot.

                  Thanks for chiming in TH0001!

Perhaps other posters can share with us which bikes have solid plastic panels versus BC/CC panels??????

As far as I know, almost all sport bikes have plastic panels, BUT they are painted, BC/CC.

Yes the body panels are made of plastic, the same as a Corvette's are made of fiberglass or plastic. However, they are painted, and since it is the paint you are polishing, you want to stick with the products for that. I think you misunderstood the question.

                            That sounds fine, TrufflePig.

Sweet bike, TH0001! I have yet to detail my bike (I did wash it once, and I've used QD several times in the five weeks I've had it) because every time the weather is nice enough and I have time to detail it, I want to go ride instead of detail! (it's not that I don't like detailing, I just really like riding).
How many CCs is that bike? It looks really nice...have you considered getting a fender eliminator kit for it?

i have this feeling that i'll be doing the bike.

                              it'll be fun.

its very different washing a bike than car. obviously.just a lot more pain staking. slower process.
