  • Can wax coats be build up or layered?

I have heard people say they have 20 coats of wax on their car.

Can you build up wax coats or does another wax job just replace the last wax with a renewed coat? I have read on another site that Zaino "polish" can have 20+ coats and it just gets glossier. Is that true or it that just customer hype? I have tired 3 coats of NXT and Zaino and can't see any build up, just the same look. Does any one really know if wax coats can be layered?
    Thanks!!

$100.00 to anyone that can prove scientifically that more layers of Zaino results in a measurable increase in film build thickness of the coating after the 3rd application.

Everyone talks about it, but we've never seen a single incident of proof...

What did they say in the 1980's?

Thats assumed that the product is being appied and removed correctly! I think if I just poured on some wax on my car really thick and never wiped it off and let it harden I could get a larger thickness reading.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Is't that about what 3 coats of Zaino costs?

According to Meguiars, 2 coats of any protectant/s is to even out the look and protection. Whether you get 2 semi-distinct layers, or they mix into some new blend is anyones guess.

Yes, I personally do the wetsanding. I've been doing it off and on for about 20 years. It is my hobby and side business. I mainly do freelance web design and video editing.

I would love to meet you sometime and share ideas. I will be at the LA Auto Show on Dec. 9. Are you going to be there by any chance? Is Meguiar's having a display?

Someone else originally lightly wetsanded that Civic and I still saw orange peel so I did it again. Normally I wouldn't wetsand a car a second time but is was done lightly the first time. It has Meguiar's NXT wax as a finish.

Notice the 100% Meguiar's link at the bottom!
