  • Black Acura TL-S: First time polish using DA polisher!

    Hello All,
Learning from Mike the proper technique on how to polish car using DA polisher from pass several Wed's night meet. First time polish the car using DA polisher today and the result is very impressive. It appears that the car's paint is "hard" type which took me a while to complete the car (~9hrs). Polish with #83, then #80, top with #7, and finally with NXT Tech Wax. Here is couple of pics. Enjoys.

    Sorry, no before pics.

Little blue flakes on the paint (very hard to capture):

no supprise, my sister drives a 04 TL and it is a pretty slick car! I hate to say this but i think i would trade my accord for her TL. Although i might sell my Accord to buy a SL

                  I have 2 Acura's and 1 Honda. They're all soft.

really? even on the integra in the back? because i worked on a integra, owner swears it's factry paint and i had to do 3 passes with DACP to get the swirls out. I guess the hardness of paint may very within the same model??

I have to do 2 passes on the #83 and top with one pass #80 to be able to compete remove swirls and minor scratches. Using ScratchX by hand only remove the swirls a little but not completely out, so I think it's hard paint unless I did not work the abbrasive until its break down.

Thanks for complements guys! TL is the best car for the money. Elegent looks, luxury rides, low maintenance, reliable, and decent power.

Impressive indeed!! As Cossyboy said, Mike Phillips is a great teacher, but apparently you are a very good student as well.

Even on "soft" paint it may take several passes to get the paint right. The depth and amount of swirling plays a part as well. I have worked on a number of black Integras and they were all pretty easy to correct with the rotary and medium polish. Sometimes a second pass is necessary to get them right.

I don't know what the newer Honda's are like as the newest I've worked on is an '04 but both the '05 and '06 TL's I've worked on have been relatively hard. A '91 NSX I worked on was just like working on my '98 Integra or either of my others.
