  • New Car Smell?

    Hey all,

Is there a Meguiars product and/or technique that will keep a new car smelling new or even and old car to smell new again??

Would something like APC do the trick?

    Thanks for any help!!

    Re: New Car Smell?

I like the smell of the Quick Interior Detailer and the Nxt Tech Protectant, but don't know if that really counts as new.

Probably better off focusing on a clean smell than a new car smell.

Nothing smells like a new car except a new car. You could go to Wal-Mart and buy a new shower curtain, open it up and lay it in the back seat. Then you would have a new plastic smell , which is close to a new car smell.

I know its not a new car smell, but I use febreze auto. Smells great and people always comment on how good my car smells.

          Re: New Car Smell?

I've always been baffled by folks who want to make their cars smell better. I've had some of the oldest and junkiest cars ever and none of them have ever stunk. But I don't have kids. Could they be the cause of stench? And I don't smoke either. That probably helps.

My hubby doesn't like the fragrant smell of Meg's interior stuff. I use Armor All leather wipes and protectanton the inside. They don't smell like hardly anything. I used Meg's leather wipes once and hubby said it smelled like dog wash.

I like my car to smell like nothing.... and a little bit of leather. :-)

            Re: New Car Smell?

The main reason I want that new car smell is becuase we have a 04 Jeep Liberty that see's a lot of time in the desert offroading and therefore a lot of dust/sand in the car from having the windows down. The smell goes away pretty good after vacumming and wiping down all the plastic surfaces, but there is still a little amount of that dusty smell.

I have to give the Fabreze Auto a try...

            Thanks for the help!!

Keeping everything nice and clean always helps. I use Megs Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant (in the red bottle) and my dash and stuff and it has a refreshingly clean smell about it.

Having a lasting new car smell is as easy as keeping and other kind of smell out. That is, dont let food sit for extended periods in the car, or at all. Remove newspapers, books, cardboard boxes, clothes, etc as soon as possible from the car. Don't use super fragrant air fresheners, or any air freshener at all really. Crack the windows if there is a smell in the car so that the smell doesnt get trapped inside the car.

Dryer sheets underneath the seats help too.

Switch to Linux. Use energy efficient lightbulbs and appliances. Keep your car well maintained and drive easy to save gas. Eat less fast food. Call your mother and tell her you love her. Try flying a kite. Read a wikipedia article daily. Use Meguiar's.

I couldn't agree more (although I haven't tried the dryer sheets thing). My PT Cruiser is almost three years old and I do all of the above mentioned things. Whenever I have a first time passenger in the car they always comment on my "new car". I love the reaction when I tell them the reality. Of course, they always follow that with a "how do you keep it looking so good!?".

                    Re: New Car Smell?

The new car smell is actually a toxic mix of fumes.... from what I understand mainly from adhesives that havent fully cured.

I wish someone could bottle a TRUE new car smell... toxic or not I love the smell.

Yes, I am along with a couple other Jeep websites like Jeeps Unlimited and KJ Country.

I will have to give the dryer sheets a try, I think that might do the trick!!

Thanks for all the suggestions and help!!

Woo JU! I'm on there as SiriusRIMZ also. I do avoid OT tho...

The new car smell is actually the harful adheasives like a previous poster mentioned. I use Interior Dash Foam in my Jeep, very clean smell, not very strong, but enough to keep fresh.

                            Re: New Car Smell?

The most offending odor in my car so far has been from my floor mats, which have just accumulated dust over the past year. Vaccuming only did so much, so, I hung them up and beat them for a very very long time, and the dust just kept on coming! So then I went over to my neighbor, who has a powerful pressure washer, and I blasted the dust out of there! I could tell it was working well because the water that flowed away from there was light brown.
