I'm a Ford Bronco nut. I am currently on my second mint, low mileage 1979 Ranger XLT Bronco, original black paint. It has 25,900 actual documented miles and has not, according to the original and only owner besides me, been painted, except for the driver's door. Please note I had a similar black 79 a few years ago, 34K miles, same paint issues. The paint is, obviously, nowhere near the quality of my 2006 Ford 500 Limited. There are a few areas of "trash", like little dust bits, under the paint, even a few small, albeit undectable unless you're under the vehicle, runs in paint at the bottom of body panels. Was this standard back then by Ford and other domestics? The painted interior sheetmetal has a bit of orange peel on it in places, and it has definitley not been painted. I've seen other older cars with original paint like this, was this just the best they could do with what they had? I'm very good at identifyng defects, and have not found any evidence of a respray, I've removed trim, checked under seals and gaskets, etc. Any insight on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks!
Thanks Mike!
I think it's normal, too. I've seen numerous mint low-mileage Vettes at shows, and saw the same imperfections. Actually, you have to really look to find the flaws. It is my understanding that concours quality restorations have paint jobs with some of the original, period correct flaws intentionally painted on, just to be authentic.
