  • 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback Mach1

So finally, I got the chance to start with this project I mentioned
    before in this thread:

    1970 Ford Mustang Fastback Mach1

I took some pictures out of that topic:

So it was time to get the job done and brought down my stuff:

    This is what I did at day1 ( I washed the car 2 day's in front ):

    * Masked the car off, so glad I did
    * Clayed the whole car
    * Made a test spot with #80 and a W8006 Polishing Pad and it didn't had any effect at all
    * Made a test spot with #83 and a clean W8006 Polishing Pad
and that had a bit more effect on the light swirls but was clearly
not heavy enough, but that was all I got, and I didn't want to use
my W7006 Cutting Pad on the finish cause Meguiar's and a lot of
you guys don't recommend it, so i didn't take any chances to ruin
    the paint
    * I polished the whole car with this combo and wiped it off with
    some Ultimate wipes:

Here I have some pic's from these steps:

    Starting masking off the car:

This me working on the car in the afternoon:

I took a break and had some time to take more pic's from a different view:

Here is the result from a full day's hard work:

Day 2, busy schedule so I started early ( again ) lot's to do:

    * Putting a coat of #21 first so it could " cure " a couple of hours
( I know up front that I hadn't had the time to do the #80 first )
    * Cleaned the tires with some house hold degreasser
    * Put on the Endurance Tyre Gel, so it could " cure " to
    * Took of all the masking tape and news paper and stuff
    * Time to work on all that chrome, with my All Metal Polysh ( great stuff )
    * Now I had some " problem areas to take care off, like the decal
( sticker ) on the hood, I decided to use my GC Trim Detailer ( 2x )
and finished it off with #21 and that went OK
    * Now I had to do the the black plate " thing " on the rear window, cause I didn't know any thing about this item and it's paint
so i decided to do this by hand with #83 and followed by #21
    * Same thing on the back wing #83 / #21 by hand
    * Cleaned the windows inside and out with the Nxt Glass Cleaner
    I really love this stuff
    * Wiped off the tires with some clean non Meg's MF cloths
    * Wiped off the #21 finally with some clean Supreme Shine MF
and the are truly the top of the bill

And there it was that so wanted shine WOW what a great stuff
this #21 I really love this sealant

    Some conclusions here:

    * It regain some color depth
    * It got some shine
    * Not all swirls and fine scratches disappeared
    * The where less noticeable for sure
    * The owner was very pleased with it

Some pic's from the masked hood:

Here is a other one after a did a test spot with the #21

Finally some pic's from the end result:

It was a very nice weekend and I learned a great deal in machine
polishing, and I still love to detail
    I just love detailing

Looks great... certainly most of the swirls are gone, dont see many left in the pics....

Hopefully you can keep us posted on how that decal works out... I've never really thought about sealing in the trim drsssing before, not a bad idea on a smooth decal like that.

Just to mention, you can also clay the trim, glass, etc as well, before masking off.

Really great job! I can tell you really took you time and did things right. Often time we rush through the process, or halfway through we get tired and don't put as much energy into what we do. Thins can come out great on half the car and sloppy on the other. You took your time and it shows. Great job!

Thx, guys for the nice comments and yes the owner was shocked
and very happy with the results on his classic car.

Now he needs to keep it that way as long as possible

Yes your right, they are a bit expensive, but it's a high quality machine and they will last a lifetime haha LOL

I payed ± 460 Euros for this machine, so I don't know how much
that would be in your currency

Hi, I am pretty pleased with my Festool, it feels like a good solid
and very durable machine, but I didn't tried out the " rotex " mode
yet, cause this was my first full detail project on such a delicate car
I just used it on a small area, with some deeper scratches and immediately
I could feel the much more " cutting " power on the surface
and the finish was getting a lot warmer, not hot luckily so it felt
uncomfortable, and off coarse this got everything to do with the
fact that I am still pretty unexperienced with machine polishing
at all, and it will get better and better in time.
