    What exactly is a "mold release"? Does this remove mold like the name implies? Does it have any other desireable effects that might be usefull to somebody who doesnt have mold growing on their car? Or am I just uninformed what this product actually is?

    Mold Release waxes are specialty coatings for use in the Fiberglas and Re-inforced Plastics industry to enable manufactures to produce parts from a mold without the substance used to make the part sticking to the mold.

    A fiberglas boat is a great example of a part made from a mold. So is a fiberglass utility sink, or a cultured marble sink. Meguiar's basically invented the mold release wax when they introduced M-08 in approximately 1950, or 1951

    (I haven't been able to hammer down the exact year).

    This was followed by M-87 High Temp Mold Release Wax,

    and M-88 Universal Mold Release Wax

    Just this last year, Meguiar's introduced a brand new line of products specifically formulated for the needs and requirements of the Fiberglas, Reinforced Plastics and Composites molding industries.

    The Velocity line

    After 10 years of research, Meguiar's proudly introduces the new VelocityTM Liquid Mold Release System.
    Velocity is the most significant breakthrough in mold release technology since Meguiar's first introduced
    the first mold release paste wax in the 1950's. Velocity saves both time and money.

    Better finished parts

    * Higher gloss
    * Less final buffing

    Faster, more efficient process

    * Less mold preparation time

    Smarter and safer for employees

    * Low odor
    * No carcinogens

    I was fortunate to be a part of some of the early testing of the Sealer and Release. In one such test, we provided samples to a high production manufacturing company for use in making Gold Cart bodies.

    It was here that I was able to see just how foul smelling the competitions products were. All I can say is I felt sorry for the works who's job it is to apply the sealers and releases...

    Anyway, after a few days this shop used up the samples we left and then called and asked if we could bring them some more so that they wouldn't have to go back to the foul smelling product.

    Velocity Sealer and Release also leave an incredibly high gloss surface on the mold, which then transfers to the finished part.

    Needless to say, less time spend doing finishing work to bring parts up to a customer pleasing showroom level.

    Too bad my former company didn't know about these products. They used to spray mold release all the time on their molds, but it didn't seem to work too well...On top of that, it had "MC" in it (Metheline Chloride)...Not too good to breathe if I remember correctly.

    Hey Mike, since your so big on experimenting (and could probably get the mold release wax easier than any of us) I wonder how it would work as an LSP??
