  • oil on windshield?

    Hi Guys,

Having my car parked outdoors over New Year's, I ended up with what looks like a thin layer of oil on my windshield. I tried washing it off with Gold Class, still there. The windshield is not beading water at all and I can still see the rainbow colors on the windshield. Any harm in my trying Simple Green or something on the windshield? How do I get the beading back? RainX? Thanks!

    Regards,
    Mike

While we don't recommend dish washing soaps for washing cars, in this case a quality dish washing detergent might be just the thing to remove this oily film, plus it's a product most people have under the sink in their house.

I've read a number of stories from people that have mistakenly got Simple Green on the wrong surface and had a problem with staining.

Thanks Mike! I'll try some dawn soap tomorrow as soon as this rain lets up. Since it's only the windshield, it shouldn't be too bad. Funny how only the windshield is affected as the hood beads the water quite nicely.

Other than that, how was your New Year's ?
