Just bought the HD restore kit for my wife's Trailblazer over the weekend to clear up her badly fogged lights. Kit made a tremendous improvement but they are still far from new. Anyway, my '07 Tundra is just starting to show some fog so I used the Plastx with the wool pad to clear them up. In the daylight they looked much better, no more fog so I thought the combo worked great. That night I turned on my headlights to see what the lenses really looked like and I was very disappointed. Millions of scratches and swirls from the wool pad all over the huge lenses of the Tundra. I know the pad was a full of old product from the wife's truck so I cleaned it in water/laundry detergent agitating with the drill and my hand. Pad came out clean as a whistle so I went through the same process last night on the same headlight and I cannot get the scratches out. I even followed the wool pad with a microfiber application by hand; still no dice. I thought maybe I had the drill too fast but I read that the speed doesn't particularly matter and my drill turns 1800 rpm (cordless Hitachi). I'd hate to wet sand if I don't have to in this case. What do you think? Thanks for your help.

I have 00 OEM Maxima headlight That was thoroughly yellowed, pitted, and nasty. Sanded down from 800,1000,1500,2000 before compounding and polishing. I still got these haze that is bluish color. I did the same OEM headlight from previous project and had the same exact result. could it be the lens?

I used Mcguire Glaze after PlastiX polish and McGuire compound. I used variable rotary buffer. Rinse after each application and complete wipe down, used orange pad ( Harbor Freight) for compounding, blue for polishing, and black for glaze.

This is what it looked like after polishing, glaze just made it shinier.

Hello everyone, another newby here and seeking advice if you'd be so kind.
Unfortunately,i dont know how to post picture's on here so i'll try to describe the problem.
There is like a pitted and faded line acroos the top of the headlight which to me look's very unsightly.
What i'd like if possible is some step by step advice on the process of getting the headlght's clear again.
To hand, the tool's i have are a variable speed corded drill and a handle grinder,so that's if needed what i have to work with.
Obviously, grit paper and some compound is needed but i'd like to know what paper and what compound i need.
I'll try and get some picture's posted if i can figure it out so it'll make it easier for you to see the unsightly mark.

Kind Regard's,

My friend had headlights that were a little cloudy and I thought it would be a good chance to practice on trying to get them clear.

I went to Autozone and bought a variety pack of 3M wet or dry sandpaper that contained a 1000 grit, a 1500 grit, 2 2000 grit & a 2500 grit for $4.99. I started with the 1000 grit on both headlights going horizontally and then used the 2000 grit vertically and in a 45 degree angle. After I used UC by hand to buff.

Also, I had a bucket of soapy water with me and kept dipping the sandpaper in the water. And the whole process took me about 90 minutes.

The lights weren't too bad to begin with. The before pics are on top and the after pics on the bottom. For some reason the right headlight was a little more cloudy than the left before I began wet sanding.

Also after I was done, when I looked at the headlights very closely, I could see some scratches but you have to be examining the headlights up close to see them.

Very happy with the results.

I did a job today that should have taken no more than an hour tops. Both lenses had burn marks from a previous job that I was apprehensive to take on to correct. I explained to the dealer my concerns and he pointed out one small spot (size of a dime) that he would like removed. I figured I would have to go down to 320, 500, 800, 1500, etc. to get rid of it. Big mistake. 2 hours and 6 pads later, not only were they not gone but I had also created others in the process. I have sanded them out with what I had left in grit, and although I could not finish it up, there was some progress in getting rid of them. I will have to return in a couple of days after some more supplies come in.
Short of going through 6-10 more disc's and another hour, is there any other technique I can use to get rid of these buggers? I wish I had some pics and at worst I could go back to the dealer to get some.

HI everyone,

Well I'm trying out the Meguiars Heavy duty kit on a 2005 Tucson and this is what I have accomplished so far...

I am going to re-sand as there are still a few imperfections, these pics don't really show it but they are there.

I think I had too much water on this first pass, going to try it using less water tomorrow, and see if it cuts them out, I'll post more pics tomorrow so you can see what I meant, and if it worked.

If that doesn't do it would it be ok to use these sanding discs on a cordless drill?(with a 4" attachment )

Thanks
