I recently purchased the DA power system for use with a hand drill. I have been watching several of the videos. In each case, once the polish and or wax has been applied with the system, it mentions removing either by hand.

That makes me believe that this product is only for application and not removal. Is that correct? Why not the latter? Couldn't Meguiar's create a removal pad?

I have always loved this company. In the early 70s I worked for an uncle who had an auto-parts store. Meguiar's was the only wax he would recommend.I have always used it.

Thanks so much,

What is the difference between Ultimate Compound and Swirl X in terms of aggression? and is it worth getting both? Ie if i'm machine polishing and use ultimate compound to clean the surface is it going to improve using Swirl X after? Is it worth having Swirl X as a less aggressive compound to use on someones car if the defects are minor and don't need UC? I'd use a soft polishing pad 2.0 (yellow). Could you use Swirl X with the wax pad for even finer cutting? I may order a more a brown pad as well incase I need more cut..

Also is it best to use the yellow or black 2.0 pad for applying deep crystal polish (stage 2 of 3)

Thanks,

I would first like to say thanks for all the help here. I almost bought some UC and then would have used it exactly like a wax. One of the first threads I read about the UC was exactly how NOT to use it. Which saved me a huge amount of time.
My original plan was to get a clay kit, UC, and some type of Ultimate wax, either liquid or paste.
Now I thinking to use swirlx instead of UC.

I have a few questions.
When using the clay kit and then a abrasive product, I read that you want to use a carnuaba product. Since the Ultimate waxes are synthetic, are those still aloud to be used?
What is the differences between liquid and paste waxes? I read that the liquid won't stain trim so to speak, and is a bit more of a pain to buff off.

I haven't made any purchases yet. Is there a better product to use besides swirlx? My car is a 2001 dodge stratus. Spent most of its life outdoors. I wax it in the spring and in the fall. There are a good amount of swirls on it, which I never really even cared to look for until I reached this sit.

Thanks ahead of time

Deep Crystal Car Wash, Differant Formula??

I have a purple two quart bottle of Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash I purchased last year and a brand new one I purchased this year. Bar codes are exactly the same(7038264104), the front labels on both bottles are the same with the exception of the older bottle it says "Safe Biodegradable Formula" on the label.

The back labels are similar on both bottles with the exception of the newer one I purchased has a list of what appears to be nasty ingredients and the older bottle has no ingredients being listed at all. Only cautionary statement on the old bottle is "Possible eye irritant. In case of eye contact flush with water and call a physician. Keep out of reach of children". Ok that sounds fare, it is soap after all.

Now get this warning label on the new bottle I purchased this year, a bit freaky, "WARNING! Contains Oleic Acid Dethanolamine, Linoleic Acid Dethanolamide, anionic sufactant, sodium sulfonate, ALCOHOL ethoxylate, sodium chloride, non-ionic surfactant" Now for the most amusing part of the new bottles label PRECAUTIONS "Avoid eye contact and PROLONGED SKIN CONTACT. Do not swallow. WASH THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING. Close container after each use. Keep out of reach of children"

So what gives? Is there a biodegradable version of this soap and a non biodegradable version of this soap or where the formulas changed?

Whats with all the funky ingredients in the new bottle I have?

Seriously I am supposed to avoid prolonged skin contact with this new formulation??

Where these ingridants in the older bottle I have?

Was the lable just updated or was the formulation of your Deep Crystal Car Was changed?

How is car wash soap fun to use? lol You don't have to answer this one, I always thought that was a funny statement to put on a bottle of car washing soap.

I just picked up a D/A to 3-step my Dodge Ram but time and the weather hasn't been cooperating here in the Pacific N.W. (Not unusual for this time of year, lol. I was just a bit 'trigger happy' to use the D/A since I've only had experience with a rotary.)

Anyway, that round sphere in the sky did come out yesterday so I thought I would get a 'feel' for the D/A on my truck before I took on the daunting task of fully correcting my wife's '02 Honda Accord, black. I'm certain my Dodge has 'hard' paint as compared to the usual Honda softness, especially black.

So, I have quite a few bottles of M's retail Cleaner Wax that used to come with the clay bar pack. So it would give me a little bite to clean and some wax.

And on to it... (side note- not sure my images are 'large' enough but I did the thumbnail software download and followed the instructions... if they are little can someone link me to or explain how to make the size larger? Again, followed Mike's post but they seem small... oh well.)

Pre-wash...

Process:

1.) Wash (Wheels, tires, wheel wells first) using two-bucket method

2.) Clay

3.) 2nd wash to remove any quick detailer left behind, two-bucket method

4.) Original Cleaner wax applied by D/A on a black finishing pad set to speed 3 using light pressure and fairly quick arm speed. I did 2 section passes on most areas, 3 on some RDS and heavy water spots. I didn't notice any more 'correction' with more pressure, nor did I expect it. Was just experimenting to see what the cleaner wax would do since I usually applied via hand. I was also trying to 'practice' for compounding and polishing, so if I was just applying a non-abrasive wax I would have reached for a red pad and just made extra sure I was overlapping coverage with little detail paid to section passes.

And to the results!

Half-way done here, only passenger side is completed...

Another shot, half-way done...

Done.

Thoughts:

Really impressed by the cleaner wax. It did remove some of the water spotting and knock down some of the RDSs to minimize their appearance. The retail line Cleaner Wax is a solid choice. I used maybe 1.5 ounces of wax on the entire vehicle and that was going back over the hood with a second coat. For $8 or something, the larger bottle could last me 1-2 years. What a great product! I've used it off-and-on for the past 10 years (alternate with NXT) on this truck but with a D/A, it's that much better!

Also, I heavily recommend using cleaner wax to anyone picking up a D/A for the first time. It's a very forgiving "practice" session before going full tilt with a compound or a light cutting polish. Just remember, Cleaner Wax does NOT play well with black trim... thus I taped to be sure.

Hey everyone,

I bought the Smooth Surface clay kit a little over a month ago and finally got a mild enough day to experiment with it. I only used it in certain spots that felt the roughest. ( hood, roof, rear hatch and the rear bumper ) The hatch and flat surface of the rear bumper were for some reason, the roughest areas of the car. I feel a huge improvement and I see a big improvement in overall paint reflection clarity. But, still I can feel some grit on the paint. This was only an experiment so I plan on claying the entire car and hitting these areas again, with a fresh peice of clay of course.

My question is, is it designed for a car that most likely never was clayed before?( My car ) As in it's a pretty mild bar that's really only meant for annual maintenance claying? Or did it just remove so much grit the first time around that it needs a second claying with a fresh bar to pick up the remaining contaminents? When I was done with the half I used, before I tossed it out i noticed it was pretty soft, and lost some stickiness.

Overall it did a great job. I can't believe what it did on the hatch and bumper. And no marring or scratches in the paint. I did apply some UQW that I bought at walmart on clearance for $7 and that is some good stuff. Love the water sheating. I can't wait for it to rain so I can watch water sling off my windows and paint:)

As a newbie to detailing. I was terrified of a spray product to actually wash my car/truck. I came across a deal where I ended up getting 5 bottles of UWWA. They set in my closet for a few weeks as I researched and researched this product and watched videos on exactly how to use it because I could not get the image of swirling the heck out of my paint with this product. So finally today I took the plunge and decided that I would just try it. I have been correcting my wifes car slowly but surely. I have the hood of the car looking great. I decided I would use the product on the hood to see if I introduced any new scratches or swirls in the paint. I sprayed the hood ALOT probably too much to be honest, but regardless of that I folded my supreme shine towel in half 3 times. I did the wipe method of wiping with the leading edge and then partially rolling it up in my hand for the next pass. After most of the product was wiped up I then flipped the towel and buffed to a shine. After I examined the hood and seen the results I was absolutely amazed at the results. I only used three towels for the job. The car is a Toyota Corolla so it is a fairly small car. I live in Texas at the moment and it just rained two days ago, so when it rains the constant dust in the air turns into mud and rests on the paint. The car was not extremely dirty but it was definitely dirty enough. This product definitely exceeded my expectations and I will continue to use this. I need to be better at taking pictures though, for some reason every time I start to do something I always forget about pictures, so I apologize. Anyways, amazing product and amazing results and I will take pictures next time. (I hope)

Or do I need to mix in some other steps that are more agressive first?

The car is a white car and in the sun you can see the swirls. With headlights shining on the rear you can see them as well.

Are UP and M205 the same thing?

Which would be better to use on a new red car for polishing prior to applying Tech Wax 2.0: UP/M205 or Deep Crystal System Polish?

I will be applying and removing by hand, so I need something that can be done without killing myself!
:thankyou1

I tried Ultimate Liquid Wax today for the first time and it is now my favorite wax. I have been using Hi-Tech Yellow Wax #26 and I like that wax a lot and will still use it from time to time. I never even thought of using ULW, I think I overlooked it because it was in the consumer line and I was thinking any professional line product would be better, and I wouldn't say one wax is better than another; just different.

Anyway, ULW went on the paint very easily and you can't see it once it's on the paint which is kinda cool. Also, I work by hand. I would apply too much wax in the past so I made sure to just apply a thin coat. I then waited an hour and wiped off the wax an it came off very easily and my vehicle has never looked better. I did apply #26 wax only one month ago so maybe that's part of the reason it looked so good. I usually wax every 3 months but was excited to try ULW.

I'm not very good at noticing the differences between waxes and between #26 and ULW: it seems ULW bonds/grabs to the paint a little better, ULW wipes off a little easier, and #26 makes the paint look a little more wet but ULW gives more reflectivity; if that makes sense.

Also, I have seen more than a couple of people say on the forum that they had difficulty using ULW and it was hard to wipe off so I'm guessing they applied too much.

That being said, I am very impressed with ULW and glad I tried it. The only waxes I've ever used was a Black Magic wax when I first started getting into detailing, then Hi-Tech Yellow Wax #26 and now ULW. And obviously #26 and ULW are a lot better than the Black Magic wax. And since ULW is one of the newest Meguiars waxes, it makes sense it has some 'technology'.

Also, I still am determined one time to apply a thin coat of ULW and not wipe it off after just to see how that works.
