I don't think it has ever been washed. Spent 90 minutes yesterday on the interior. i buffed the hood with my DA and the microfiber pads and correction fluid. I did make a dumb mistake with the wax. I had an old jar of an expensive wax. I used it on the hood. It dried hard in 5 minutes. I spent 30 minutes trying to correct my mistake. Old wax in the trash can.

Here is the paint after a little elbow grease plus tarminator, DA using microfiber pads.

This is a "before" picture. It is really hard on a white car to see how dirty it was. I washed a clayed one side of the car twice to get it clean.

There is a little surprise under the hood; a 550 HP supercharged engine.

It seems like it's been forever since I've posted over here... Almost need to re-introduce myself...

Here is another one of my recent projects. It's not every day that you see a Duster, let alone with a 400 under the hood.

The paint is hard to describe. First, the black stripes are all painted on. Second, there is a ton of paint on the car. Many areas measured well over 19mils, but the clearcoat was thick in some spots and thin in others. There were runs galore and some spots had been poorly sprayed. The owner wanted the hood and trunk leveled, along with both rear quarters and the runs needed to be removed.

The hood and trunk took a ton of sanding to level. I went over the hood a total of five times with Unigrit 1500 Sanding Disks in order to properly level the paint.

After the first pass:



In order to refine the finish, I went over the hood using Unigrit 3000 Finishing Disks. Then, I used a Meguiar's double sided wool pad and M101 to remove the sanding marks.

Not too bad:



The rear quarters received a quick leveling using Mirka Abranet Soft 1000, Unigrit 3000 Finishing and 3M Trizact 5000. I found the Abranet disks leveled extremely quick and really saved time. The rest of the body was polished using the Rupes 21 and HD Polish on a Meguiar's Microfiber Finishing disk.

As Kevin Brown put it, the hood now looks like a sinkhole...

Overall, it wasn't a bad project to work on. Although I wish the painter used consistent techniques when spraying, I was able to correct the paint to a near showcar level. Our job was to rescue it. We were to restore the finish to like new or better. The paint being soft wouldn't stop us from achieving a perfect finish. We have done many of these before so our equipment, products and technique were dialed in.

So I figured it would be worth buffing it out and making it look a little nicer. The top and passenger side of the car was pretty faded. The... The top and passenger side of the car was pretty faded. The car had had a cheap single stage paint job in the past it looks like.

I did 1 pass with a Groits 6" random Orbital, Meguiars Ultimate Compound, and with a Purple Lake County Kompressor foam pad.

Its not perfect by any means but it looks 10x better. Still need to do about half the car still the worst of it that is able to be fixed without reapainting is done.
