I wax nearly every 6 weeks and only ever wash with next gen car wash.

Ive read articles now on swirl/scratch x, polish and wax and i am going to do this so i can clean the wax residue off and get a nice deep shine.

So what i plan is, wash, scratch x, polish with deep crystal and then wax with either next get or canuba ( excuse spelling) as i am running out of next gen.

Am i on the right track?

Thanks.

Hello all;

I am posting because I have had many, many problems with my cars paint. My car was stripped to bare metal, fenders doors, trunk and hood removed and stripped as well.

I have had to take the car back 5 times because the paint bubbled and had flaws come up in various places and in some cases the same panels have been done 3 times. There was no rust in the panels or anything underneath.

Only in the past few days I have learned that paint needs to breathe/ outgas ........I have been waxing my car immediately after picking it up from the body shop. I have asked them several times if it was fine to do this and they said "yes". Knowing what I know now, I am pretty sure my problems are caused by the sealant wax I have been using without waiting 30-90 days

Now the car has been entirely repainted again (not stripped again though) I won't wax it for at least 45 days, probably more.

What can use to maintain it in the meantime? Can I use a car cover? Can I use wing covers to protect my fenders if I work on the engine ?

Just want to make sure I don't mess anything up this time.

Thanks for your help

I've got my 98 GMC Yukon correction this weekend. I'll more than likely use the D300 on the MF pad but even the M105 with work faster to cut, I'd rather use it, but I don't want to have to grab QD everytime because it dried on me.

Thank you for any ideas!!

Next weekend I will be attending Wuste a European car show in Las Vegas.
I am pretty much going to do a complete detail on my car working on both Weds and Thurs night.
Issue is I am driving to Las Vegas on Friday and the show is Saturday.

Detailing I can do.
I only need to polish and protect, clean the wheels, and polish the exhaust tips.

Now for the questions
Polish choice...
What should I use? I vaguely remember Mike Stoops mentioning that M07 can deteriorate quickly in the sun. I am good at not hearing things correctly, so that may be wrong. But if it is true what would be a good durable polish that would not have that issue. I have M205, M07, M81...

What I want to try is Thursday night polish with 50/50 M07 and M81. Seal with powerlock. Then wax. Would those polishes last me the two days? I am guessing yes but just checking.

Wheel cleaning...
I need to clean the barrel part of the rim. Any suggested methods or products? I do plan to remove the wheel because the construction makes the barrel hard to get to easily.
I have most sprays and wheel woolie brushes.
Aluminum.

Polish exhaust tips...
Was planning on using steel wool #0000 followed by dynacone with megs metal polish. It worked once before.
But if there are suggestions of how to do it better I am all ears.

There are a lot of spots on the paint work caused by bird poo. There are a few scratches which I will have to paint then wet sand back and clear coat again. Of course, there is the usual swirl marks all over it. My questions are:
which product for a PO is best to remove the bird poo marks?
which product is best after I

So I did and here I am. I want to stop by probably on a Thursday or Saturday. So more info on that would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Porter Cable and a Snap On rotary. I use 3M compound and poor boys, but the Meguiars 105,205 and now the 101 have really caught my interest.

So the 101 will be able to do the 105's and 205's job?

Hey there,

I am just starting up a mobile auto detailing company, and I wondered how current mobile detailers are advertising for/to customers? I have business cards (which I hand out at every opportunity), a facebook page dedicated to my company, I am looking into a web site and I have placed an add on kijiji. Anyone doing anything else for advertisment?

I am going to be doing waterless washing for the exteriors... I have done some research on a few different kinds and I would love some opinions as to which you all prefer? I have looked into a product called NOWET... which looks interesting (claims to be completely eco friendly, organic and REACH certified), it's quite expensive however. The others i'm interested in are Ultima Waterless Wash Plus, and the Meguiars version, Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere.
Any advice, or suggestions are completely welcome! Thanks for taking the time to read this :heelclick1.gif

It's a shame that such a beautiful car gets treated like ****. Owner has plenty of money but is kind of a cheap skate. Car show is coming up 4th of July weekend, guy wants me to do my full detail package. (In the Boise area I usually charge $3-350 for this) and it can take me anywhere from 8-12 hrs depending on the condition of the car. With the Porsche being black and the condition it's in I'm guessing 12 or more hours. He want's a discount on the detail and then he will let me put signage/advertisements on and around his car for the show. Have any of you ever done this? If I do decide to do this how much of a discount if any should I give him? I'm not sure yet how many cars are going to be in the show, so I don't know yet how high my exposure will be.

Guys,

I would appreciate some help in moving forward with detailing a few cars.
I'm stalled and not sure reading any more forums/contacting Meguiar’s will get me any closer.

Essentially would like a methodology where acceptable results are reached with reasonable effort, I'm sort of a 80/20 guy.

CONSTRAINTS:

Living in NYC and will detail the vehicles on a long weekend in Massachusetts.

Would rather overspend on products than have delays.

EXPERIENCE:

Haven't waxed a car in 20 years(since moving to NYC).

I’m relying on my distance nightmare experiences renovating an old Colonial house using Taylor Rental Floor and Edge sanders with 36 grit papers. There was a time when it had to be essentially planed and went even lower and it was NECESSARY or the project wouldn’t have completed, which is a concern on the cars. The “Polishing” of the wood floors required multiple passes/grades, you really couldn’t skip grits.

“Let’s talk about Total Cut” discusses the multi-variable cutting system, but I’m attempting to reduce some by making the following constant for polishing/cutting:

CONSTANTS:

Rotary Polisher

Constant size Pads.

Constant Pressure/Movement (Understand that pressure lightens in the end)

At least once I figure the technique/product/equipment out.

Eliminating cost as a factor:

Purchase the most expensive for consistency/simplicity.

Purchase an abundance of MicroFiber Clothes.

Tape: Tape will be applied to exterior plastic if it simplifies.

Eliminate Perfection, simply don’t need it.

VIDEOS/RESEARCH
- Many, but this seems to be among the best:
How To Meguiar's Professional Mirror Glaze Training Video
Let’s Talk about “Total Cut” Excellent

PRIMARY Goal:
2004 BMW 545i Black: which was extremely well maintained by brother-in-law prior to my receiving it. Hasn't been waxed in 1.5 years and sat four 4 months with a white salt haze on it.

SECONDARY Goals:
These are my "practice cars", especially the 2005 Toyota Sienna

2005 Toyota Sienna: White: Hasn't been waxed in at least 3 years, maybe never.
2009 Hyundai Elantra: Blue: Never Waxed
2009 Toyota Sienna: White: Never Waxed

PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED: All New:

ADT Rotary Polisher

Mequiar's: 8" Soft Buff Foam Finishing Pad

Mequiar's: 8" Soft Buff Foam Polishing Pad

Generic Car Wash from Advanced Auto

P21S Carnuba Wax

PHASING:

Experiment on White 2005 Sienna.

Refine on White 2009 Sienna.

Attack Blue Hyundai with advanced skills.

Should be ready for Black BMW, better be.

Current Detailing Steps:
Contacted Meguiar's for advice on BMW. They suggested this plan of action.

Wash

Clay with Meguiar's C-2000 Mild Clay with Rotary Polisher (RP).

Polish with Meguiar's Speed Glaze, #80.

Wax with RP

In addition: for other cars

Meguiar's C-2100 Clay Aggressive

Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner Polisher, #83

- Purchase Automotive Masking tape.

CONFUSION:

Though the recommendation is to use the least abrasive product, as there isn't extensive time to experiment. Maybe purchase some #85, or maybe #84 for the non-waxed vehicles.

The rational, is not too much harm if the car is only polished/waxed every year or two.

Thought I had a plan until I came upon the 105/205 route

Meguiare’s 105 Review

Meguiare’s 205 Review

Do you ever mix methods? That is, would anything in the "8x" series that should be used in conjunction with 105/205?

Mixed

Is there any need for a stronger compound than #105?

Is Clay necessary with 105?

Clay: And if so,

Should the cars be clayed twice, once with Aggressive and once with Mild?

8" PADS: Thought the 8" route was OK, even decided I should pick up:

8" Soft foam cutting pad

8" Double Sided Wool Cutting pad.

6.5" PADS: One of videos suggested getting smaller pads and it seemed reasonable, why not.

A new backing plate in the cart

6.5" Cutting/Finishing/Polishing Pads in the cart

7" PADS: Then this review suggested NOT to use 6.5", but the new 7".

Why 6.5 is poor choice.

PADS 2 sizes: Are two sizes needed/recommended?

LUBRICANT: The videos suggested a lubricant for the clay.

Pinnacle or Meguiar's Final Inspection?

“Last Touch” or “Final Inspection”

Last touch is mixed 1:1 with water.

If Final Inspection is better for a fast shine, maybe it is useful to cut down on products.

WAX/Sealant/Both:

M2164 Synthetic Sealant seems well reviewed.

Do you wax over the sealant? (Sounds foolish)

Do you wax before sealant? (Sounds foolish)

If Wax, Ultimate Liquid won’t stain plastic trim. #12

Or do you simply recommend good taping and a paste wax.

POSSIBLE Detailing Steps:
Are all these steps necessary for cars that haven’t been ever been waxed?

Wash

Aggressive Clay with Rotary Polisher(RP).

Mild Clay with Rotary Polisher (RP).

Cut with Meguiar's Speed Glaze, #105(RP).

Polish with Meguiar's #205(RP).

Seal with Meguiar's M21(RP)

Wax (RP). Hmm,Mequiar’s doesn’t recommend RP for wax or sealant?

WAIT: Are there any steps that can't be performed with Rotary Polisher?

Other Questions:

If I purchase gallons, is there a life span to the products?

Really don't have any idea how much "Final Inspection is necessary" for 4 cars.

Are washing mitts necessary if loads of Microfiber cloths are purchased?

Bumpers, any special treatment?

Other Suggestions?

Realize this is long and tedious, all help would be appreciated.

Also comes with 3,5,and 6 inch Optimum backing plates and a few new 6 inch pads.
