Hey guys. Just took a quick break from my homework to wash the truck at the coin op. While there, this is the SECOND time (out of two times) that I have seen a person at the Coin Op using the Engine/Tire Degreaser over their entire car... I know this because the "soap" is green instead of white...

So, it's got me wondering...
Are these people plain crazy? OR Are they trying to remove some substance such as sap or something? If so, I would think there has to be a better way than spraying Engine/Tire Degreaser over your entire car. Maybe they are trying to remove wax??

Thoughts?

I have a new black car to show off. I keep telling myself that silver would be so much easier, but I keep getting suckered into black b/c it looks so darn good when you're done. The key is setting proper expectations for yourself. There's just no way to have a perfect finish unless it's a garaged/non-daily driver. For me, it's the challenge of doing what I can to make it look its best & better than any other black car on the road. The pictures below represent the first full detail @ 5K miles.

Products/Technigue:
1. Two bucket/grit-guard using Gold Class Car Wash
2. Third bucket/grit-guard for lower forth body pannels, wheels & wheel wells
3. Megs Clay
4. G110 v2 D/A M205 softbuff 2.0 polishing pad (speed: 4)
5. G110 v2 D/A M205 softbuff 2.0 finishing pad (speed: 4)
6. G110 v2 D/A Rejex softbuff 2.0 finishing pad (x2 waiting 12 hrs between coats)
7. Rejex via hand on the rims & chrome
8. UQD

I use Rejex b/c of the longevity of the product and the ability to use it on my clearbra. That said, the key to a great black finish is M205. In my 20+ years taking car of cars, it's the best product I've used for polishing/jeweling and minor corrections. It's fantastic at removing light swirls and bringing out the best in your finish. If you need more correction, obviously, M105 is my go-too. No question in my mind that M105/M205 is the best 1-2 combo on the market.

I hope you enjoy...

It's funny, this stuff is the most readily available yet still performs best. I've tried branching out with other washes, some Megs (NXT, UWW, etc.), and some others and I always come back to Gold Class. It's sudsing (is that word?) action is absolutely unmatched and the wash mitt just glides over the surface. With other car soaps, after a minute the bucket is mostly just water. Gold Class stays soapy and always leaves the finish the glossiest of any other produce I've used.

I'm speaking from a consumer line standpoint here, of course, so expensive/rare car soaps I have no experience with. I'm talking about just walking into an auto store and picking anything up. Speaking of which, I need a new bottle of this stuff :bigups

The found it in a back room and it was "dusty". When I started to use it didn't look right. It appeared watered down and a little separated. I mean the liquid appears to be two shades. The smell, if any is industrial. My question, is there a shelf life on M40. I stopped using it after a small application, or would it be good to go.

Hey everyone. Good to be back as the weather gets nicer. A QUICK background. My detail last year consisted of a Meguiars G110v2, Ultimate Polish (LOVE it), a GREEN LC CCS pad, and on Speed 4. It proved to be the best compromise for defect removal and gloss without having to follow it up with a finer polish before the LSP. A more aggressive pad or higher speed left a hazy finish.

Anyway, I'm looking for a little more correction and have a question about Menzerna PO85RD Micro Polish I just picked up after hearing good things. If I use a slightly more aggressive pad with the UP on the same or higher speed for better defect removal, will the PO85RD on a polishing/finishing pad remove the hazing left by the UP and give me some gloss and clarity? Thanks, guys!

A friend of mine bought a 78 Chevrolet C20 Scottsdale a couple of days ago. He approached me wanting to give him a hand with cleaning it up becuase the previous owner owned it for 3 years and put maybe 3000 miles on it and never washed it. Last night he came over and the paint is severely faded. The hood is suppose to be a dark brown but it is a very light brown. Also the rood has some sort of layer of either alot of old paint or mold. So my plan of attack is:
Ultimate Compound (yellow pad with G110)
Ult. Polish
#26 yellow wax

And for the roof i was thinking purple power dilluted down and seeif that helps. Let me know if this plan sounds like it would work. i have never worked on anything this old so any help would really help. Not going for perfect just wanna clean it up as much as i can.

I will be putting pics up of the g37 soon. It's 2am my time and I am beat but I detailed the heck out of my Infiniti today. Wow it looks great!!!! I still have a couple of fine scratches I couldn't get off. I guess my paint was harder than I thought. Well it's a black 2011 g37s sedan. Yup I said black!!! It was a pain. I was masking since 11am this morning and jumped right in so obviously I washed with UWW soap and then clayed the car with Meg's mild clay bar (the blue stuff). After that applied a combo of UC and scratchx 2.0. I used 2.0 for areas that needed the attention with the G110v2 and red pad. The yellow wasn't cutting as well as I wanted so I kicked it up a little. The UC was applied with the yellow pad throughout. I found that using the yellow on level setting 4 was not enough so I ran it on 5 to get results I wanted. I am definitely sure that this paint is hard now!!! I used great technique as viewed in Meg's tutorials (slow and fast for + cutting action). This process took the longest. Than came polish. Oh man I love this polish!!! I used #7. I don't know how this isn't the best selling polish Meg's has?? I tried UP before but this is way better in my opinion. It was deep and rich after application for the black color I have. Finally wax, the wax I went with was UW liquid. I really wanted the yellow tech wax because of what I read about but haven't bought it yet, maybe tomorrow ;). But I have GCC paste and UW so I went with UW. I massaged it in with the black pad on level 3 moving pretty quick. I applied a really thin coat and waited about 3 hours and applied another coat again. Marvelous looking wet appearance indeed!!! I am stoked on how this came out. Literally took me the whole day and then some. Well I did take ps3 breaks and all but very happy non the less!!! Btw is the tech wax worth the buy for a black vehicle or is there something else I should use next time??

At first, it was ment to be an in/out kind of job, but when i saw the car, I decided to give it a little more, it deserves it.

-This car has the original paint job, and 220000 kms on it.
It has been treated well, but it needed some spa treatment. I decided to go with a two-step for it.
upon delivery (washed the day before by owner)

I've seen quite a few people mention they re-wash their car during the stages of a detail. Some re-wash after a compound to remove dust, some also re-wash after a polishing stage, and some straight after the LSP.

I wash before the job starts, compound and polish as needed and wipe off my LSP and usually that's it. Occasionally a Quick Detailer to remove any remaining smears but that's not often and usually confined to small areas.

Cuirous to know why this has become such an emerging trend. In my opinion the re-wash step allows an opportunity for your freshly corrected paint to be marked- even if only very slightly, by the washing process, especially considering the freshly compounded or polished paint is without wax/sealant protection at this point.

For paint correction I have mainly used M105 via DA which is prone to dust more than UC however this can be controlled with a simple adjustment to the amount of product used, priming the pad and regular cleaning of the pad. I used UC on a full correction job recently and was amazed at the differences compared to M105. Both correct to a similar degree, but in my opinion, the UC was not as user friendly in a direct comparison to M105. However my background involves a lot of rotary polisher use so this could skew my view on useability. The one thing UC would not do for me is dust.

As a fair percentage of MOL posters would be using UC over M105, the lack of dust, at least in any significant amount, makes me wonder why you would add the extra stages into the already lengthy process that is car care.

Hi guys

I want to start off with some intro about me. My name is Franki and I'm a automotive technician by day, a detailer by night. I love keeping my cars pristine. I'm here to share some of my work with you all.

anyways back on topic

Hi guys

I have a M-Benz C300 in for paint correction. Which most likely be my last car I detailed in NJ before moving to California. The owner just brought this new to him M-benz C300 2 months ago, he was refer by the GTI owner I detailed last month.

Anyways the paint is looking very sorry and I did my best to correct the paint. This is my first time using a rotary on a detail, because the paint was so HARD! harder than Audi IME. I started with M105 with LC PPF wool pad, but it was dusting crazy, so I added a little of Meg D300 and it helped reduce the dusting. Then finish with Menz 106 with Uber blue pad.

So here its the video

Picture will come later
Thanks for looking!
Any comments or questions are welcome!

Hello, I am excited to go out and work on my car. Like an idiot, I didn't sign up a last night and ask my question. I want to go out and get some work in before it gets dark, so hopefully you awesome people can help me out.

I Have washed my car a couple times in the past few days, and I plan on going out and washing it again today real quick, then hitting it with several products.

I have:
ultimate compound
clay kit
Gold Class Wax.

rotary buffer. (Trying not to use if possible. open to try it though if it will look a lot better than hand)

I read that I should be using ultimate polish after the compound so it leaves appropriate surface to continue working with.. Is this always the case?, or just for really bad paint. I'll head out to buy a bottle if need be. The paint condition isn't by any means awful... Its probably less than that 5 years old seeing as the car is from 2004, and the PO had it painted when it was picked up from auction. I figure I hit it with ultimate compound in the areas that have scratches? Should I do the whole car anyway?

also I assume the order is:
Wash
Compound
Polish (if you guys think I should do it)
Clay
Wax

one more question ( I promise ) Will Gold Class Wax work okay after I use the ultimate line?

Let me go outside right now to take pics... BRB

I've always liked big fast american sedans like the caprice and crown vic. I love my car. Since it is a squad car, it has several MINOR dents, nothing big or metal creasing. It was resprayed at one point, but there are some tiny chips and scuff marks. It needs to be re-painted, but I still want to do whatever I can to make it look really nice until I can it it painted. Thanks for the resource guys... Please don't hate on me for owning a cop car :D

Hi everyone. Newbe here. I have a 2010 black Lexus that has swirl marks in it due to a detail job. That was first & LAST time I let anyone wash or touch my car. Prior to that I was using dual wash buckets, one way wash movents etc, so the swirl marks are 99% from the detail job.

I've been doing a lot of reading & have my plan of action. 1) wash 2) Clean (scratch x or swirl remover) 3) Polish (Deep Crystal Polish) 4) Protect (NXT Generation Tech Wax Paste). I'm doing it all by hand. I know, I know, it'll be painful & will take some time. hahaha

My question is, I already have Swirl Remover #9 (havent used yet) and I notice that it has polish IN IT, do I need to even get the Scratch X, since they are are both swirl removers? & since the #9 is a cleaner/polish, do I cut out the Deep Crystal Polish as well?

I'm trying to be smart w/my money & dont want to spend money on products I wont need.

Thanks for ANY feedback. Being a female, I'm totally new to this. hahaha

Ok I did something pretty boneheaded the other day. I was washing my truck outside, half (the drivers side) was in the sun, the other half in the shade. I was using Meguiars Gold Class Car wash, and rinsing each panel frequently. I feel like I had the whole drivers side soap free, but possibly not? Any way, I wasn't really thinking about it, and I allowed it to dry in the sun.

By the time I got over there and looked, it was dried. And these waterspots don't look like they want to come off. I was actually really surprised by what a mess it made. They seemed almost sticky to the touch, the surface feels kinda crappy. I really didn't know what to do so I tried rewashing that side, which didn't work. I dried the side and thought I might try using some quick detailer to see if they'd come off like normal waterspots..they didn't. In fact right when I started trying to quick detail it I could feel under the microfiber that it was having no effect. No longer a smooth feeling surface..not sure what to do.

I was getting frustrated and a little worried at this point so the next day I actually tried to clay that side. I tried on a small spot first which seemed to be making a small difference, but altogether it made little difference. I feel like this is something I've done before, allowed it to try in the sun and there were no nasty results left over. Not really sure what went so wrong. What should I do? There's a coat of Megs Ultimate Wax on there from maybe a month and a half ago. I was thinking starting from square one? Maybe Meguiars Ultimate Compound?

Any help would be great, thank you.
