UWax (liquid)/Textured Plastic

We know that UWL will not 'stain' trim etc. So last fall (late Sept) when I was getting the truck for winter, I thought, "Let's try this on the mirror heads."

After waxing the body, there was a bit of product still on the pad. I just 'zoomed' over the plastic (textured), wiped it off and called it good.

Fast forward to yesterday (14Mar12), I was able to give that big sucker a 'proper' wash (70* in Mn!)...the mirrors look like they did in Sept. Whereas the bumper covers, also a textured plastic, well they look like black does after a winter. Kinda dull and faded.

If this will work on ALL black plastics, I do not know. But on a 2004 Chev 2500HD it does.

Interesting. If I remember correctly, someone did what you did as well, but ended up having their plastic turn white after a few weeks. I ought to give this a try on a bed cover on my truck and see what happens. Worst comes to worst, ill just scrub with APC+.

I've been using ULW and UQW on black plastic trim for around a year with great results. Good looks and durability. I see no streaking, running or waterspotting over time. One product that does it all.

So you're saying it never turned white? Hmm... I definitely may give this a shot then. Do you think it would out last Ultimate Protectant?

I have UP (and I think every other Meg's vinyl protectant they've ever offered, LOL) but I prefer ULW and UQW as an exterior vinyl treatment.

ULW has never turned white on me. I think I recall reading that the paste version might cause that to happen, but not sure if I remember that correctly.

The paste does whiten plastic trim. I have first hand experience lol. So do you wipe off the ULW once you apply it to the trim? What exactly is the process? Same as applying on paint?

I first clean the trim with APC then I apply ULW with a MF pad and, wipe off with using a clean microfiber. I don't let it haze, I just buff it immediately. When I use the UQW (D156) I just spray it on the car, paint and trim, rub it in gently and wipe off with a dry MF.

I really like the ability to get good results, all with one product. IMHO, I prefer this product for trim over any previous dedicated trim product I've used.

Ok thanks for the info, I think I may give this a shot tomorrow, maybe try it on a bed panel and compare it to another trim product that I use that is dedicated to trim.

That is the beauty of the LIQUID over the paste...the stuff doesn't 'white'. If glob a boat load on the surface, it probably would. But when used as directed (THIN THIN THIN!)...the results are great.

You don't have to let the UWL dry, just apply THIN, let it sit for a minuet or so...wipe off.

Well I gave it a shot today on the bed panels on my truck. So far so good. When comparing it to Adams Super VRT which I normally use, it appeared to be about the same in gloss and darkness. I'll have to check out the durability once I start driving the truck everyday again once im out of school in a month.

Just don't use the paste version of UW on plastic...
