Alcohol on a paper towel defeats that nasty stuff ez. If you don't have any alcohol, just go to any gas station and buy a 99 cent container of gas line anti-freeze, which is basically alcohol.

Few notes of caution... first being that a paper towel will scratch and/or mar paint. I would highly recommend never touching paint with any paper products - glass is ok. So in this case, just modify your plan of action to use a suitable microfiber towel :)

Two, the alcohol will remove wax, so be sure to wax the area when done :)

Well, the sap will ruin a mf towel 'cause it won't wash out. Use Bounty; I doubt gentle wiping w/ a fresh Bounty will scratch paint. Chuck the Bounty when done, or save to remove grease from a door jam.

Paper is wood. Wood and your paint finish don't mix!

Wait a second!!! You don't use 2X4's to buff to a high gloss!:D

I parked under a tree at the car show and when I got home I had sap on my car, I just washed it with warm water soap solution and the sap washed off..

There is that wonderful product from Meguiars called Body Solvent.

And not all tree sap is equal. Some I have been able to just wash off and some took more agressive tactics/products.

I've been using Isopropyl alcohol to remove tree sap for almost 20 years now! :xyxthumbs

...though I agree that it should be used with a soft cloth and not a paper towel. ;)

Mineral Spirits, never had a problem. Grew up in an area where only mineral spirits would remove some of the nasty pine sap around.
