At a car and bike show last weekend I ran into an old pin striping friend I had not seen for 10 years or so. He had set up and was striping bikes and cars in the parking lot where the show was. I had been considering some tasteful striping on my car for awhile so I let him do his thing. I took the car home and washed it twice with Dawn dish washing liquid and brought it back to him. He didn't have a rag, and I should have seen it coming, but I wasn't paying attention and he used a soft paper table napkin from the cafe' next door to apply some cleaner where he was going to run a stripe. He did a really nice job and said I should wait about a week before I washed the car to give the paint time to cure. Got the car home and pulled it into the garage and then I saw them.............arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh...... tiny scratches where he used the napkin to clean. I'm hoping that ScratchX and paint polish will get rid of them but it's going to be a real job because it's so close to the pin striping. If I'm not able to get the job done I'll be seeing him next month and I'll see what he can do. Any ideas that might make the job a bit easier?

#105 would be easier....

I have no idea what the best way to work next to fresh striping would be.

Maybe try M105. If the scuffs run under the stripe, then I would go get one of those plastic painter's edges - the kind that block paint so they can paint a straight edge... then cover the pinstripe with the plastic edge as you work in the 105. Then maybe #83/#80 (or comparable).

There is always blue or green tape, to tape off the stripe - polish one side, re-tape to get the other side... However, you risk harming the stripe depending on the paint used, curing time, etc... You may have to try and live with it till the stripe has cured for taping.

Anyway... Good Luck! That would drive me nuts too!Scottwax4

No matter what you do if you want to preserve your stripe then cover it, painters tape, microfiber towel or something that will not let any product get to the stripe.

M105 will do the job easier and more efficient than ScratchX

Thanks everyone. Fortunately the scuffs are only visible from certain angles but when you do see them they are pretty noticeable. I'll see if I can find some M105 and just work carefully.
