The Gilmour Foam Gun is extremely useful. I got it yesterday and today I got my samples of car wash soap from ADS. I tried out Super Soap in the foam gun and I was amazed. Nice layer of foam over the car for a cheap soap. I cant wait to try out the others. Ill also get pics of it in action once it warms up a bit. This foam gun is my second favorite detailing tool next to the PC :)

I think its really worth it. I used Super Soap and you all should know that its a pretty cheap soap to get. It foamed nicely. Ill get pics later on when it warms up. I think I have every Meguiar's soap except DC Car wash, Soft Gel, and The Hi-Tech Wash. I have all the other ones and Im gonna do a test and see which one is the best ;)

I know, which is why I dont have it lol. I always assumed its used for when wetsanding because thats the wash thats always recommended. If anyone wants to send me Soft Gel or DC Car wash (dont see the point because Super Soap is cheaper) then feel free to. I can test it out if you want. Now all we have to do is wait for a nice somewhat warm day and we are in action :)

I have never used one before would u say you use less soap or more? Also can u control it easy? and last question what steps do u use after the car is all foamed up?

I use the gun as a presoak. Instead of using water to get the car wet, I use the foam. It has more lubricity and its just safer to use than plain water. I soak entire car in foam and then go back and wash it regularly. Some people also foam the car then use the foam thats on the car to wash so it eliminates the bucket with soapy solution. Youd still need a bucket to rinse your mitt.

Yeah, I pre-soak if it is really dirty, not so much for just light dust. But rather than using a soapy water bucket, I put the soap on the highest ratio, and spray one panel and my pad, and wash that. Flip pad over for next panel, soap those and wash. Then put the pad in the rinse water bucket, etc, etc.

Th3 f0am gun r0x0rs in places that you can't get too also. :laughing Great for cleaning the underbody during that spring cleaning! I think its ok on paint, but a power washer does a better job at getting the initial grit off.

I got mine from AutoGeek. Powerwashers are good but also bad. All that pressure is slamming onto the dirt and grit and it has no where to go but into your paint. Foam gun has less pressure and uses soap which adds lubricity so it helps slide the dirt off instead of blasting it into the paint. Just extra measures to keep it swirl free.

If you start the power washer on glass and move over to other areas, you flood the dirt off. Its not like you are pulsing water on top of dirt. You move the wand from clean to dirty, you can actually see the dirt being lifted from behind. Its worked for me and I have no swirls, in fact I have never heard of someone getting swirls from using a power washer.

OK, your place, 03:00 AM tomorrow. :D

You can bring the donuts. :D
I'm up for wherever. I'm pretty booked up in the evenings this week. Saturday, before heading over to Richard's place might be a plan. My place isn't too far from there (but my driveway gets full sun anytime past 08:30).
It'll probably perform a little differently if your local water pressure or pipe size is significantly less than what I've got. Might be worth trying at your home first.
We can talk about it Thursday night.

I have always wondered what Super Soap would be like in the gun. Says lots of suds but rinses easily? Would almost be a practical joke if the suds hit the car and rinsed away at the same time.

For a presoak, wonderful soap. Suds well and for the price, its a good soap. However I would not use it if I was actually going to wash the car only with the foam gun.

Add in some non spotting rinse agent and you could wash your car in about a minute and a half without even touching it. But where's the fun in that???:D

I find it needs the agitation of a mit or something to really come clean.... but thats why I wash in the rain... 3 minutes and done, and almost no spots afterward.

I see that Gilmour has several different models, which did you find works best for you?
Has anyone seen these for sale at any retail locations or is the Internet Highway about the only way to find one?
Mayur

Ive never seen one at a retail location. I believe there are two different models its only the bottle size thats different. I have the quart sized one and I can do one half of the car at a time. The bigger one is the half gallon bottle.

Well, there are a few different ones. There are 2 different size botles, but also different mixing valves (metal or plastic) and a set ratio, or adjustable ratio.
I use the brass adustable 1 quart jug.
Mayur
Apr 22nd, 2007, 07:38 AM
^x2. The brass adjustable one is the one thats on Autogeek and such. I keep it set all the way to the left so I get the most foam. I too have a 1 quart jug. Didnt see the point of spending $10 more for a bigger jug.

Hi Egleone, I believe that foam is an added agent to soaps, detergents .It is mostly useful to keep dirt floating in water. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks:)

Foam certainly isnt essential for a wash product to be good. But since the idea of a foam gun is to get some foam (which will have your soap, lubricants, etc in it) to cling to the car for a bit while washing, instead of running off, you want at least some foam for best results.
Egleone6
Jan 25th, 2008, 11:55 AM
What are you trying to say? Who said anything about dirt staying on foam in water? I was saying that I have used DC Car Soap and it is not that good at foaming. You need foam, lubercation if you don't want swirl marks. If not, just wash your car with only water. If you have a good foam on a car with a foam gun, you will reduce the chance of getting swirls. Correct me if I am wrong.

Then why go buy a 60 dollar foam gun. I can get that much from my Ortho Dial n Spray. The ONLY purpose of a foam gun is to CREATE FOAM. You can do two things with it, presoak, Which once again, requires FOAM. The other is a Spray during the washing. Which once again, foam is key.

Why go buy a 60 dollar foam gun? For the fun of it, I guess. Foam is not essential to washing a vehicle without instilling swirls.
Just a thought, if you really like Eagle One products, why don't you head on over to their forum and talk with the people there? This is the second old thread you have revived to say people should use Eagle One instead of Meguiar's. Most people on MOL are all for hearing people's honest opinion on the products they use (and that includes competitors products), but when you are reviving dead threads to plug Eagle One, that comes across kind of strange.

Can't say that I've ever used Deep Crystal Soap in my foam gun but I have used Super Soap, Gold Class, NXT and #62 Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner and they all foam at least as good if not better than the EO shown in the YouTube video.
That doesn't make any of these shampoos, including EO, good, bad or otherwise. It just means some are possibly better suite for foam gun use than others. Big deal.
