New Way To Apply Paste Wax To PC Pad

Hey everyone,

I saw this on another forum and thought I would give it a try. I took an old deoderant container cleaned it out with HOT tap water and soap. I then used a double boiler to melt some collinite fleet wax and poured it into the container and chilled it in the frig. Here is what it looks like.

Wouldn't the extreme temps from melting the wax harm the wax? I was thinking about doing something like this, but felt that the extreme temps would alter the characteristics of the wax.

Mike, any comments as to wether or not it would hurt the product by doing this? If not, this is an awesome idea! I have started using #16 and it's a pain to get on the G100's pad. Something like this would make it an easy process.

:LOLOL: Just don't get confused and use the wrong one in the wrong place. Don't think #16 would work good in the pits or Speed Stick on your car.

Re-heating and then liquefying and then pouring a melted wax into a plastic container not specifically developed to have hot wax poured into it will likely change the performance of the product.

You're on you own on this one. As we commented on your other thread about how to get M16, or any paste wax onto a foam buffing pad for application with a dual action polisher, there is no Simple-Simon method.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I waxed the truck yesterday for the first time with the #16 and the PC combined. It was a pain to do, but it did help to keep a nice thin, even coat with the #16. I've done it by hand before, and this was better than doing it by hand, but still a pain to get the wax from the tin to the pad.

Well, if you think about it, the way they get that stuff in the can in the factory is to inject it as a hot liquid. And it does hold up after being shipped and stored at pretty warm temperatures. So as long as you don’t go too crazy heating it seems reasonable that there shouldn’t be much difficulty.

Obviously, any volatiles in the mix are going to start flashing off so it’s a good idea to keep the heat as low as possible and not leave the wax exposed to open air too much for too long.

The again, you could just punch the applicator down into the wax cookie-cutter style without heating it at all.

What are the chances that Meguiars could put out product using this type of applicator ? Would it be worth making it available to the buffer crowd ? Looks like a slick idea.

I melted it by boiling water over low medium heat outside and then I placed the container that was holding the scooped out wax into the boiling water and slowly melted it.

sory so boiled water put can in it wax melt ?
take a spoon and put wax in a contaner am i correct

I boiled water , took a mason jar scooped wax into it then placed it in the boiling water. It would be a good idea also to use some leather work gloves to avoid steam burns.
